eQPress Limitations

3 min read

While eQPress handles most of the backend tasks, some responsibility still falls on the site owner. You’ll need someone with basic technical skills — like a webmaster — to manage theme and plugin compatibility, especially after updates. Certain plugins (e.g. security, CDN, or those requiring Apache) aren’t supported due to eQPress’s focus on security and performance. If your site runs into slowdowns or malware, our support team can help identify the cause and suggest solutions.

eQPress is focused on security, stability, and performance. That’s why we impose certain limitations to reduce the attack surface:

  • we might ask you to migrate the comments to the external 3rd party (e.g. https://disqus.com/ ) if there are performance related issues
  • the site can’t use any plugin that utilizes .htaccess heavily and can’t work with “pure” nginx like WP-SpamShield — eQPress does not have Apache
  • there could be various design issues (lost widgets, etc.) after migration process is completed — these issues should be solved with your own webmaster / site administrator
  • the only supported PHP version is 8.3.x as it is up to date and secure
  • the site should not use any CDN plugins
  • the site should not use any “security enhancing” plugins e.g. Wordfence, All In One WP Security & Firewall, IP Blocker, Exploit Scanner etc. — eQPress is already configured in a a secure way
  • performance measuring plugins like p3-profiler or query-monitor should not be active all the time — they are affecting site performance
  • site webmasters or designers are responsible for ensuring that themes and plugins remain compatible with current WordPress versions. Since our platform is managed, we may update the OS, WordPress core, themes, and plugins at any time. If a theme or plugin is not compatible with the latest WordPress or PHP versions, our support will be limited to identifying the issue — for example: ‘Theme not compatible with WordPress 6.6.2’ or ‘Plugin not compatible with PHP 8.3.’
  • we don’t allow complex MySQL things like stored procedures and/or triggers that can bring instability and replication issues
  • eQPress is WordPress-only service, we can’t host Laravel/Yii PHP framework, etc.
  • eQPress can’t be used without Deflect (we will provide a whole backup if you decide to stop using Deflect, no vendor lock-in)
  • if you need to use custom system packages (like non-cloud usage of ewww-image-optimizer plugin with all of those conversion binaries) – it is not possible on eQPress due to security limitations
  • if you want to send a newsletter to several hundreds of people – please use an external service for this (Amazon SES, Mailgun, etc.)
  • we may ask you to update vulnerable themes or plugins. If the request is ignored, we might patch them ourselves. We’re not responsible if patching causes changes to the design or disables certain components — we simply can’t allow insecure software on eQPress
  • there is no SSH is available, only SFTP
  • there is no memcache/redis or elasticseach/sphinx
  • there is no git/svn or any CI/CD
  • there is no cPanel/Directadmin/Webmin/CyberPanel
